Early in the day of September 3, 1954, Stamford Firefighters from the Central and Westside Fire Stations were called to 1 Atlantic Street for an elevator motor fire. Firefighters had to enter the building through a fourth-floor window to extinguish the fire using Truck 1’s 85-foot aerial ladder. The fire was confined to the elevator motor, but the smoke did cause damage to the offices on the fourth floor.
