Editors Note:  The following collection of photos was provided to me by Steve Heilner, former Turn of River Fire Marshal and member of the Stamford Arson Task Force.  The information on the photo envelope was that they are of an “8-3” (3-alarm fire) sometime in 1981 on South Pacific Street.  After further research, Ihave tracked it down to a three-alarm fir at  491-99 Pacific Street (roughly the area of Dock and Pacific Streets) in February 1971. The photo’s have been improved as much as possible.

Firefighters arrived at 11:27 PM to find the house already ablaze. A second alarm followed at 11:30, with a third six minutes later. Intense flames caused the collapse of the building’s upper floors, as forty firefighters battled the blaze for nearly five hours while almost one hundred residents watched. Nearly 100 residents watcg fourty firefighters battle the bkaze for close to 5 hours. Following reports of a fleeing individual, the Stamford Arson Task Force initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
