This photo is of John George Schlechtweg, pumping the American LaFrance Steamer Engine at the Stamford Town Hall Fire on February 4, 1904.
John received his appointment as a “call” firefighter on July1, 1889. He received his appointment as a career firefighter on March 1, 1910. He resigned and was placed on the pension roll at 1/2 Salary on September 1, 1917.
John is the son of Andrew Schlechtweg and Amelia Hoffman. He had an older sister names Anna Elizabeth and is the older brother to Andrew Schlechtweg.
John married Amelia Sarah Louise Effren. Together they had a two daughters and two sons.
John died on March 9, 1939 at the age of 73. He is buried at the Woodland Cemetery on the Southend of Stamford.
